SPELEO CANYONING ALLA TANA CHE URLA
La Tana che Urla is one of the best known and most popular caves in the Apuan Alps, due to its ease of access and internal travel.
A real river flows inside it, in fact its beauty is given not only by the shape of the rocks, but also by the beautiful and celestial pools that are found at the end of the path.

After a brief introduction, we immediately put on our wetsuits, harness and all other equipment. A 15 minute hiking trail will lead us to the entrance to the cave. After the briefing on safety and on the activity, off we go!
This is a unique, one way and return route. We will follow the underground torrent upstream, with small sections of climbing and downclimbing. The temperature of the air and water varies between 10 and 11 degrees centigrade. In the highest point upstream that we can reach, you will have two options to choose between: swim across the small terminal underground lake, approximately 10 meters fully immersed in the water, or not. Your headlamp will reveal colors and images that you will never forget.
Although the return retraces the same route as the one followed to enter, in some parts it will be unrecognizable to you, almost as though it were a different route.

WHAT SHOULD YOU BRING?
- Polyester thermal shirt (base layer) to wear under the wetsuit,
- Bathing suit,
- Towel,
- Gym/hiking shoes to wear into the canyon (they will get wet)
- No rings on fingers.
- If you wear eyeglasses, find a way to tie them on to avoid losing them; if you wear contact lenses, it is best if they are of the single-use type, and bring a spare pair!
- A plastic bag to use for your shoes, socks and everything else that will be wet after the descent.
- Canyoning boots can be rented at 5€ per person, to be requested when booking the descent.

knowing how to swim with or without a life jacket (the absence of fear of water is important. )
the absence of cardiac and/or respiratory pathologies that are not compatible with physical effort.

Before entering the cave you will be informed and trained on:
the objective and subjective risks found in the speleological environment and in the speleology activity.
the behaviors to be followed for personal and group safety
the progression techniques, as described on the documents called “briefing” and “form”, downloadable on this site
on behaviors to respect the environment.
You will be accompanied by professionals, experienced Canyon guides, with a diploma from the Italian Canyon Guide Association or with equivalent qualifications

La Tana che Urla
Un’altra cosa meritevole di esser visitata da chi giunga al Fornovolasco si è la così detta Tana che urla. Nella più dirupata base della Pania, sopra, al paese, e non lungi dalla strada che guida in Petrosciana, vedesi scaturire un ruscello per una buca da cui esce un continuo rumore, quasi cupo ululato. Entrando per la medesima conviene andare per circa venti passi carponi pel solco dell’acqua, il quale tosto s’inalza e lascia camminare in piedi, finché si giunge ad una caverna, a guisa di grandioso salone a volta, il cui vano è di metri 42 da un lato, e 18 dall’altro. In fine di questo salone, ripieno di bizzarre e vaghe stalattiti e stalagmiti, una massa d’acqua, precipitando bianca e spumante dall’alto, forma una stupenda cascata, ed assorda il visitatore col rumor fragoroso che odesi anche all’esterno dall’attonito passeggiero, il quale, abbattendosi a passare di notte tempo per quella via, ignaro della cosa, sentesi compreso da ribrezzo e spavento.
Chi avesse desiderio di conoscere minutamente tutte le particolarità di codesto antro ululante, prenda il Vallisnieri e resterà soddisfatto. Noi che fummo a vederlo, dobbiamo dichiarare che non è dei migliori che si ammirino in Garfagnana; e non può confrontarsi con taluni di quelli ch’esistono nel monte di Corfìno, di Soraggio ec.
LEGGENDE POPOLARI
Divenne triste e si ammalò,nessuna medicina sembravano avere effetto sul giovane. Una notte, mentre giù dalla Pania scendeva un vento gelido, il minatore udì bussare alla porta. Aprì e trovò in terra un cesto colmo di fiori che nascono soltanto durante l’estate. Allora capì chi poteva avere portato fino alla casa quel cesto, uscì e corse verso la grotta. Riuscì a vedere la fata fuori dalla spelonca, le confessò il suo amore disperato. Ma la Fata gli disse che non era possibile e che se avesse mangiato quei fiori sarebbe guarito e l’avrebbe dimenticata per sempre. Ma il giovane insisteva; allora la Fata lo avvertì che se l’avesse seguita in fondo alla grotta non sarebbe più potuto tornare alla luce del giorno e, detto questo,si allontanò. Il minatore non si arrese e le corse dietro e le pareti della montagna si chiusero. Oggi dal profondo della grotta si sentono ancora le voci delle Fate e ogni tanto anche qualche colpo di piccone del minatore.Questo è quello che riguarda la bellissima leggenda.
